Preventing Tooth Decay in Children

A healthy smile leads to a healthy life. Why is maintaining good oral hygiene important? If decay is left untreated, it will spread and lead to more serious problems.

Is Your Child Experiencing Pain While Eating?

Your child most likely has tooth decay. Have your child checked early to detect risks and be evaluated for cavities. Untreated, decay causes your child to become more vulnerable to illness, gum disease, and other problems that can lead to other expensive complex procedures down the road. We are striving to make your child's dental visit pleasant and comfortable! We'll give your child a happy, healthy smile!

Prevention Is the Key!

Treatment for tooth decay depends on how severe it is. You may be able to prevent decay by having regular dental checkups and exams bi-annually, as well as having in-office fluoride treatment.

You may be able to prevent tooth decay by using fluoride. To treat cavities caused by mild tooth decay, Dr. Jung will fill the cavities with white composites (tooth-colored fillings). For more severe tooth decay, your child may need a crown or pulpotomy.

In extreme cases, your child may have to have their tooth extracted. If an extraction is needed, Dr. Jung will evaluate your child for space maintenance if necessary. Call Okemos Pediatric Dentistry PC to schedule an appointment.

Tooth Decay Can Lead to More Problems:

  • Infections
  • Toothaches or pains
  • Gingivitis
  • Extractions
  • Pulpotomies

Preventive Evaluations Save Money

As a trusted name in pediatric dentistry for over 25 years, Okemos Pediatric Dentistry PC and Dr. Melvin Jung are concerned with your child’s health and development.

Your child’s teeth are evaluated for fluoride needs to optimize the preventive actions that are beneficial to your child’s health and development.

In addition, we care about your child’s development and are willing to go the extra mile in giving you and your child advice in further preventative measures.
